The Power of Attorney
Names the person to manage your finances and property, paying bills, managing bank accounts, and handling insurance and benefits, if you become unable to do so yourself.
Why it matters:
Without it, no one has legal authority to act on your behalf, even a spouse in many cases. Your family may need to petition the court for a Conservatorship instead.
The Health Care Proxy
Names the person to make medical decisions for you if you’re unable to communicate or decide for yourself, whether that’s a short-term situation or something longer-term.
Why it matters:
Without it, your family may need to go to court to have a guardian appointed before anyone has legal authority to make those decisions. A process that takes time you won't have in a medical crisis.
Why These Are More Than Just Forms
The Power of Attorney and Health Care Proxy are some of the most important documents in your estate plan. They only get used when you can no longer speak for yourself. This means the first time anyone finds out there is a problem is exactly when you can't afford the delay.

A Health Care Proxy and Power of Attorney don’t require you to have decided who inherits your home, or how to structure your estate, or any of the bigger questions that can keep people stuck. They just need you to name someone you trust to help if you can’t help yourself. That’s it, and having them in place now removes one of the most immediate risks your family faces: not knowing who can act, or a document that doesn’t hold up, right when it matters most.
Starting here doesn’t close the door on the rest of your planning. It just means the most urgent piece is handled, and you can think through everything else on your own timeline. We can work with you when you are ready for that, but for now you will have the documents you need if there is a crisis,so that someone you trust can help you.

We discuss the important decisions and review your choices and the specific powers in your documents together. We meet in our office, by Zoom, or by phone.
3 Execute your documents
At our office at no extra charge, with staff as witnesses and a notary present — or on your own, with instructions we provide.
